A Good Day

The crickets sing their lullaby as the day closes it's eyes.  The farm prepares for bed.

The chickens are done with strutting and scratching. It's time to roost.

The barn so bright and inviting during the day, is playing hide and seek with the darkness.

Inside, we're getting ready for bed.

It's been a good day.

There was work, laundry, a floor to mop, green beans to pick, and supper to make. Supper. Supper was simple but delicious.

Some of these, some green beans picked fresh this afternoon, and a salad filled with fresh tomatoes from the garden.

But it's time. Time for goodnight. Hugs from my children as they prepare for bed, and some sweet words from Farmer Boy before he goes up to wash the day away.

Yes, it's been a good day.

The dinner dishes are put away and the floor has been mopped.

Holly, the chocolatey and dumb but devoted dog, has taken her turn on the night watch, protecting her domain from squirrels and bunnies.

The tea has been brewed, my porch awaits.

It's time. Time to sit and listen to the sound of the wind as it sings the leaves to sleep. Time to soak up some silence, to quiet the voices, and to tuck in the motion of the day, as my shoulders relax and my eyes grow heavy. Time to stop, to listen, to breath deeply and to say thank you.

It's been a good day.
