Love is in the Air

Love is in the air. Love stories. Romance.  I love it all.

I wonder if King Solomon loved romance? I think he must have loved women. He had 1000 of them he....well...he....well.....you know. Having 1000 women makes me question Solomon's wisdom. Not that Farmer Boy is as wise as Solomon, but he is a man who has to deal with this maiden, and according to him, one maiden is more than enough.

Proverbs 30:18-19 says,

There are three things that are too amazing for me,
four that I do not understand:
the way of an eagle in the sky,
the way of a snake on a rock,
the way of a ship on the high seas
             AND
the way of a man with a maiden.

The way of a man with a maiden. There's been quite a bit of talk around here lately about the way of a man with a maiden.

Homecoming is just around the corner. Boys have been asking girls for a couple of weeks. There has been long stem roses in lockers, signs in class, signs posted alongside the road on the way to school, visit to fathers to ask permission, volleyballs with the question, "Will you go with me?" written on them, requests on the bus, requests in the hallway. The way of a man with a maiden.

I've been eating it up. Tell me more. How did he ask her? What did she say? Was he nervous? He really went to ask her dad? I love it.

I've been asking myself how I can incorporate all of the things I love into a career. I love exercise. I love writing. I love stories about men with maidens. Hmm....let's see, I could be a fitness instructor and instead of having music in my classes we could have a person sitting in the corner reading from "Pride and Prejudice" or "Song of Songs" while we are doing bicep curls and burpees. I could write the great American romance novel that features a couple who fell in love in such a class. I could start a blog with workouts and romance stories. Things to think about to be sure.

In the meantime, I thought I'd show you some of the love going on around here.

This is my demon-eyed, stalker dog. She loves watching us through this window. She loves being in the house with her people. She's sitting on my wicker porch chair quietly pleading with us to let her in. I believe her true love is bacon, and on this particular morning the smell of Farmer Boy cooking bacon was flirting with her, seducing her to the point of desperation and madness.

Farmer Boy loves Fall. It means he can ride in his combine. Last weekend he and Farmer Chad combined their soybeans. The sound of the combine stirs a deep, serene, quiet place in Farmer Boy's soul. It's a place that I can't get to. His longing for more combine time, causes him to drive slowly through the soybean fields, gently caressing them with the touch of his treasured green machine. Perhaps he believes that touching the soybean fields in this intimate and romantic way, will cause the plants to be more productive and give up more of their beans. I honestly don't know. I'm a little jealous of Farmer Boy and his combine so I don't ask. Yesterday he called me from work to inform me that he got to spend some time in a combine the size of a small country. Another combine mistress that I can't compete with.

Combines and Farmer Boy. The way of a man with a maiden. It's all the same.

Well, I think that's it.

Here's a nod to some of my favorite men and maiden stories.
